I am a fisherman’s daughter from Rymattyla in the Turku archipelago. Fish and the sea have been
an important part of my life since I was a child. The archipelago’s handicraft traditions gave me
the direction for my future career.
I have been doing fish skin leather work for over twenty years, with fish skins products ranging
from herring to pike. Currently in the preparation of my products, I am mainly using burbot
skin as the working leather. In my work it is important to me that the products continue to
develop/improve. I do not use any chemicals in the handling and processing of the fish skin
leather, only natural tanning agents.
In addition to fish skin leather, I also use other types of domestic (that is, Finnish) leather; for example,
the leather of wild game can be blended with fish skin leather to produce attractive products.
